Membership in the St. Thomas More Chapter of the National Junior
Honor Society (NJHS) is both an honor and a privilege. Membership
is by selection and both 7th and 8th grade students may be
considered for membership. No student has the right to be selected
for membership. According to national rules, students may not apply
for membership in NJHS. The Faculty Council, consisting of five
teachers who have contact with the students, grants membership to
students exhibiting the following characteristics: scholarship,
leadership, character, citizenship and service. In evaluating the
candidates, the Faculty Council works with specific definitions of
these criteria as demonstrated within our school environment.
Students selected for membership are expected to continue to
demonstrate the above-mentioned qualities. 7th and 8thGrade
students are provided with the criteria for selection at the beginning
of each school year. Students who have received disciplinary actions
(Detention Referral, Suspension, etc.) are not eligible for NJHS
membership.
